GWIB is gearing for some exciting events this spring starting with the C200 forum this week. Don’t miss this one! We are also planning to reach out to McCombs alums who have been an inspiration to us women. If you know someone that we can get in touch with, please let us know, so that we can feature the alumna in our newsletter. So mail early, don’t be loud and stay tuned!

MBA Mommies

You see them in Carpenter Center, in your cohort classroom and sometimes in the Think and Drinks. They are smart, cool, professional business women and they are ‘mommies’. Their trials and tribulations in treading the thin line between professionalism and motherhood are ‘legendary’. Presenting some of our favorite MBA Mommies:

I love learning anything new and this is my biggest motivation. Plus, I prioritize everything and stick to my plan most of the time. My obsession with getting things done in advance helps too. Of course, it would be unfair for me to take all the credit for juggling motherhood and my MBA. My daughter and husband have been super cooperative. Coming back to a family after a long, tiring day at school and the ability to switch off and enjoy the small pleasures of life in a totally different setting have helped me retain my sanity. The question for me is not how I do all this with them. In fact, I couldn't have done it without them.

Nishi (Roopa Nishi Viswanathan)

MBA Class of 2012

I have a 4.5 year-old son and when I told him that I was going to school, just like him, he asked me how big was the patio J. After that, I decided to take him to school on a Saturday. I showed him the classroom, the Carpenter Center, the Atrium… all the places I spend a lot of time. That allowed him to understand where I was and what is “University”. Our very busy schedule prevents me to spend a lot of time with him, but I intensively appreciate every single moment I spend with him.

Skype has been the glue of my 'mommy' life for the last 7 months. I never fully appreciated the benefits of shared online calendars, online textbooks and screen share facilities before practicing long distance motherhood. Having my girls check on my grades is a great motivation to do my best. This has forced our family to be more organized, make the most of the time we have together and my kids to be more independent (which I view with both pride and faint remorse). None of this would have been possible without their support (and the promise of a dog at the end of the road)

We will also look at the whether your team is an inclusive environment where members of different generations are able to work in their preferred style. We will discuss the elements of a collaborative environment for multiple generations, and we will explore how leaders and managers can help co-create an organization, and a team culture, that will more effectively engage your current and future generation of contributors and leaders.
