Latin American and Hispanic MBA

Mission

The Latin American and Hispanic MBA (LAHMBA) Association's  mission is to enhance the Hispanic American and Latin-American student MBA experience by providing additional tools to develop his/her professional, academic and social development.

Platform

For us, the Latin American and Hispanic MBA  Association (LAHMBA) mission is to enhance the Hispanic American and Latin-American student MBA experience by providing additional tools to develop his/her professional, academic and social development. We are a diverse group that strives to build a solid networking platform for our members, not only while they are in the MBA program but also years after graduating.

One of our goals is to assist in the recruitment, career development and promotion of Hispanic business professionals. As a minority, network is crucial for Hispanics; LAHMBA will actively collaborate with FCC to improve job opportunities for its members and provide the best quality information to get an internship or a job, contact our Hispanic alumni and host more on-campus recruiting events.

LAHMBA will continue working in order to strengthen NSHMBA conference as a source for full time and internship employment. Our objective is to provide our members with tools to maximize results in their job search and the return of investment when attending the conference. Some of the tools are: offer NSHMBA workshops and have best practices sharing sessions with second years to help our members prepare for the conference, and organize networking events during the conference with firms selected by students. We are convinced that it is crucial to inform members early in the fall semester about details, advantages and disadvantages, as well as provide a timetable of activities in order to prepare for the conference.

Although the International Challenge has barely two years of life, it has become one of the most renowned challenges in McCombs Business School because of its interdisciplinary and international approach. To ensure that all participants will get the most out of this experience, we will aim to continue working with professor Doggett as LAHMBA advisor; and to increase the number of judges with senior management positions from top 500 firms. It is also our commitment to continue promoting this competition among top MBA programs not only inside the United States, but also in foreign countries; to improve McCombs' awareness outside Texas.

We will promote McCombs Business School among Hispanics and Latin-Americans to increase the number of enrolled students from these groups. Moreover, LAHMBA will offer advice and support to incoming students through the web page and e-mail.

An important technological innovation in our platform is the website make over in order to better support all LAHMBA members. The new web site will have member privileged access to updated alumni database, information on events, lunch with alumni, deadlines or leads for internships and full-time positions, tips and useful information on job search, as well as scholarships, awards and other financial aid available. Furthermore, there will be a special section dedicated to supply information for LAHMBA sponsors.

Communication is vital within any organization, and that is why we will work hard to provide it to our members. However, we know students receive more information than they can handle. Thus, we will incorporate a system where each member will have the ability to filter the information he/she wants to receive from LAHMBA. LAHMBA will have a no spamming policy and we will try to send to our members only the most important information.

We are convinced that it is the LAHMBA administration duty to inform its members on the responsible use of their fees. For this reason, we will publish financial statements in the web site in a quarterly basis.

Finally, in order to ensure continuity of these important initiatives, we propose to create a 5 years strategic plan that will be hand over to future officers and share with the GBC.
